  • Essential learnings/questions - How did the Etruscans and Greek influence Roman Civilization? Who had the greater impact on Rome?
  • Overview - Students will first research topic related to Greek and Etruscan influences on ancient Rome. They will then create a voiceThread to share what Rome borrowed and how they made it their own. videos will then be shared on a blog where comments will be required about which civilization had the greatest impact on Rome.

  • Differentiation - Students will be placed in groups so that they are with people that can help if needed. online tutorial will offer visual and audio learners a chance to view skills needed, Students that needed will be given more in depth organizers, Group topics will also be determined based on skill level since some topics will be harder to find and understand. I will also make sure I stop by and help those students who I know need more help and direct them to databases such as SIRS discover instead of SIRS knowledge.
  • Assessment Preassesment- survey using Google form , informal assessments will be done through Edmodo and checklist, a final assessment will be a rubric
  • Prior Knowledge -Students will know how to:
    • use their textbook as a resource
    • have analyzed achievements of previous civilizations taught in class(but not this in depth)
    • have basic computer skills to find their way around web tools with only some basic instruction
    • use the databases and OPAC

  • Instructional Sequence -
Engage: Students will complete a Google forms survey to assess prior knowledge. They will then watch a video of pictures and determine what the pictures all have in common. Pictures will all be items that Rome borrowed from the Greeks and the Etruscans.
Exploration: Students will then be placed in group and will research a topic,(Engineering, sporting events, religion, language, architecture, government, and art), They will create a table in wikispaces where they will have to record information about how either the Greeks or the Etruscans gave them the idea and how Rome change it.
Explain: Students will then use voice thread and pictures from Flickr creative commons to record a short video on their topic explaining where the ideas came from, what the original idea was, and how Rome changed the idea.
Elaborate: Videos will be posted in the class blog and students will use the comments feature to determine which civilzation had the greatest impact on Ancient Rome.
Evaluate: Voice thread videos will be graded using a rubric and shared with the class.
